Heroes including local law enforcement and fire fighters lined up to help local children shop at the Cape Girardeau Walmart during the Shop with a Hero event early Tues. morning, Dec. 8th.
Each child received seventy-five dollars to spend as they wished. Exiting the checkouts, the children were excited to show off their gifts which their "hero" helped them find. Approximately eighty needy children were selected by the local schools to participate in the Shop with a Hero program.
Sometimes more money was needed for the child to have an item such as a bicycle. Often a generous hero pitched in the extra money needed.
The funds are raised through the combined efforts of the Walmart Foundation, Cape Girardeau Walmart associates, and by law enforcement and fire fighters from Cape Girardeau, Cape Girardeau County, and Scott City.
