The Shelter of Hope, the home grown homeless outreach program founded by Chaplain Terry Wildman, gave awards Monday, May 10 to men and women in the area who worked to open the new Shelter of Hope thrift store at 733 Broadway.
Awards were given to Bob Nelson and Martha Nelson of Cape Girardeau, Bob Robinson of Cape Girardeau, Rhonda Wildman of Cape Girardeau, Lucita McNeely of Scott City and Harvey Gaddy of Cape Girardeau.
Chaplain Terry Wildman explained, "These men and women put in long hours painting, cleaning and setting up the thrift store. They made this store a reality by freely giving of their time and labor and we just want to show our appreciation."
The thrift store offers a variety of used clothing, knick-knacks and furniture. Wildman said a daily meal will be offered to the homeless from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. daily. "We are here to show Jesus love to everyone," Said Wildman.
The new thrift store will be open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. "We could use some volunteers who would like to contribute their time to operate the thrift store and help those in need," Wildman added.
