We are searching for volunteers who are interested and available to share their talents with the children served during our programming. Now wait a minute, we ALL have a talent. Some are just more defined then others.

Volunteers are needed that can supervise with homework, play and snack time or read a story. We are also seeking those who are crafty and would be willing to share those talents with our youth.

We have two separate programs that are in desperate need of Volunteers. The After School Program and Tiny Toes snack-n-learn.

After School Program

If you were to come by the Resource Center from 3:30 to 5:30 Mon-Thurs you would see a full building brimming with students and staff interacting as the After School Program is in full swing. Daily activities are offered after the Power hour (when homework is done) along with a snack and drink. Resources from within the community come in daily to enlighten, entertain and educate our participants. We are actively enrolling students as well as accepting volunteer and mentor applications from individuals within the community. The after school program is open to any K-8th grade student who has transportation to and from The Resource Center.

Tiny Toes snack-n-learn

Tiny Toes snack-n-learn is offered every Wednesday from 9:30 to 11:30 am. The programming is designed to offer parenting education in a nontraditional manner, an adult support group for the caregivers of children, and a playgroup for the kids. All while educating the participants on their local area resources, supplying a snack and drink and the offer of "free" books. The programming is open to any parent or caregiver with children aged 0 to 6 yrs old. The first hour of Tiny Toes programming is offered by Success by Six and the Cape County Library. They are a steady every week. Then the second hour is used to bring in our community's resources. Each week a new community collaborating partner comes to share with our attendees the who/what/when of their organization.

In the past CAFRC's after school program has been staffed by volunteers from SEMO college. College students who needed to find positions within the community in which they could work with youth in a social working situation. Unfortunately for CAFRC's youth the students are no longer required to fulfill that volunteer commitment. Which has left our After School Program short staffed.

The Tiny Toes program always has a need for extra volunteers. Volunteers to enlighten the children while their parents are receiving information from community resources who are invited in every week during the second hour of programming. In the past the first hour has been staffed with Success by Six and Cape Library staff. We have lost the Library staff during their move into their new building and must find someone who is willing to replace them during their absence. With the hopes each group would be willing to alternate their programming when the Library does return.

Please consider sharing your talents with our youth. It is one of the most rewarding feelings to see a child smile. We welcome you to join us.
