R.A.M. Club Community Service
The Scott City Elementary R.A.M. Club put in a full day of giving back to the community. The R.A.M. Club is made up of 3rd and 4th graders who went through an application and approval process to become members of the club. The letters stand for: Respectable, Accountable, and Motivated. The following students proved they are all three on Friday, April 30th. Chloe Clayton, Ethan Palmer, Olivia Sykes, Kaleigh Dirden, Karleigh Payne, Rylee Venable, Eli Berry, Megan Smith, Jackson Hurt, Samantha Merritt, Michaela Overbey, Hailley Matlone, Dylan Hackler, Sam Jordan, Paige Cummins, William Klingeman, Mycyrah Pool, Rylee Stroup, Courtney Enderle, Taylor Strange, Kaylea Bard, Madison Thompson, David Smith, Ashley Cummins, Justin Provo, Gracie Kern, Bailee Lathum, Lacey Lange, Camryn Daniels, Makayla Job, Lexi Burnett
The R.A.M. Club members participated in the statewide "Bashin' Trash" by picking up litter at the Cape Nature Center. Sara Turner, the Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center manager said, "We really appreciate the effort and hard work you put into making the nature center grounds a better place!" Together, they picked up 12 bags of trash blown in from the highway. Ms. Turner also discussed with the kids the effects of litter in nature.
After, the "Bashin' Trash", the students were treated to lunch at The Ice Cream Corner. The owner, Virgil Landewee, had many helpers on hand to feed 32 children. The students had their choice of chicken strips, cheeseburger, or a hot dog. All meals included fries, drink, and ice cream with a choice of topping. It was just what these R.A.M. students needed to refuel for the next project.
The Scott City Park was the location for the next project. Phyllis Crump, park manager, taught the children how to design a flower bed. She then showed students all the steps to planting the flowers. The plants were chosen to go along with the Sunny Hill Village Garden Club theme of "Think Pink, Plant Pink". The R.A.M. Club members helped plant over 70 pink flowers.
