Safe House for Women is going all in for victims of violence with its 3rd Annual Texas Hold 'Em Tournament. It will be held Sunday, December 13, 2009 at VFW Post 3838, 1049 N. Kingshighway in Cape Girardeau.
Seventy-five to 80 poker enthusiasts ante up each year to aid Safe House in its mission to serve domestic violence survivors. This event is the agency's primary year-end fundraising activity. To reach its goals Safe House needs support from the community. Cash sponsorships and in-kind donations are needed to make the tournament a success.
And it's not too late to sign up to for a day of Texas Hold 'Em at the 2009 Safe House fundraiser. Cash prizes, Cardinal tickets and door prizes are part of the fun. The pre-registration donation is $50 in advance or $60 at the door. Registration forms are available online at www.semosafehouse.org/.
In 2008, the Safe House for Women provided emergency shelter for more than 150 women and children. A wide range of services all free-of-charge, also are offered in conjunction with the shelter. Those services include a 24-hour hotline, individual and group counseling services, and foster pet services, just to name a few. None of these things would be possible without generous support from sponsors and the community.
It's also important to note the state of Missouri offers a 50 percent tax credit to those who assist qualifying domestic violence shelters, such as Safe House for Women. Safe House will be happy to provide details to anyone interested in its tax credit program.
So if you are interested in "going all in" to raise awareness and support for domestic violence victims and survivors step up to the table with a cash sponsorship or in-kind donation.
