(Wally) and Annie Wallace of Wyatt, and Kenneth (Kee Kee) and Trudie Knupp of Anniston, MO. Brandie graduated High School from Thomas W. Kelly in 2008 and aspires to become a Veterinarian.

On June 16th of 2010 while working at Show Me Rental's in Sikeston Brandie's right leg went out from under her, she remembers the pain in her right hip began before she fell to the ground. This pain has continued with her every day and hour since.

From June to December 2010 Brandie had seen two separate Doctors both whom ordered their own ex-rays of her hips and lower spine. Neither Doctor saw the severe Necrosis, which had already caused irreversible bone death in both of her hip joints. They both assured Brandie that the pain in her hip was referred pain from the scoliosis in her lower spine.

Brandie continued to work every day dealing with the debilitating pain, In July she was blessed with a position as a lab tech with Cott Beverages in Sikeston. The position was very demanding and at times required Brandie to work as much as 70-90 hours a week and walk as much as 5 to 7 miles each shift. In March of 2011 the pain had become unmanageable so Brandie was forced to quit Cott to find a less demanding job.

In May of 2011 Brandie returned to her primary physician who in December had assured her the pain was nothing to worry about. This time her Mother insisted more be done to discover why Brandie was in such horrible pain, and why she now had pain in both hips and her left knee along with muscle wasting, headaches, nausea and the inability for her skin to be touched. After five weeks, six specialists several ex-rays, CT scans and MRI's Brandie was finally diagnosed with a very serious bone disease called Avascular Necrosis.

Avascular Necrosis (Osteonecrosis) is bone death caused by poor blood supply to the area. It is most common in the hip and shoulder, but can affect other large joints such as knee, elbow, wrist, and ankle. Osteonecrosis occurs when part of the bone does not get blood and dies. After a while, the bone can collapse. If this condition is not treated, the joint will deteriorate and this will become severe arthritis.

Osteonecrosis can be caused by disease, or a severe trauma, such as a break or dislocation, that affects the blood supply to the bone. Many times, no trauma or disease is present, which is the case with Brandie. This is called "idiopathic osteonecrosis" -- meaning it occurs without any known cause.

Brandie will need complete double hip replacement surgery. Her first is scheduled for August 8th at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis and her second three months later on November 7th 2011. Her Dr. feels sure she will regain the range of motion in her hips allowing her to safely and hopefully walk pain free again.

If you would like to share a few uplifting words with Brandie through a card or letter feel free to do so. She can use all of the support she can get. She is living back at home with her parents and younger brother Devin. Each day is uncertain as to how she will feel and some days she needs someone with her constantly, so visits are nice too. : }
