PHI DELTA THETA CHAPTER AT SOUTHEAST MISSOURI STATE UNIVERSITY WINS NATIONAL AWARD
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Oxford, Ohio, August 13, 2021 – Southeast Missouri State University’s chapter of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity was named recipient of the organization’s Founders Trophy. Awarded at the Phi Delta Theta 83rd General Convention in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on July 20, the Founders Trophy recognizes the most outstanding Phi Delta Theta chapter at a medium-sized institution. Qualifications for the award were based on a list of operational factors throughout the academic year, including chapter management, academic achievement, and member development.
The Missouri Epsilon Chapter of Phi Delta Theta at Southeast Missouri State set a standard of excellence when they reached a 100 percent retention rate of their new members during the 2020-2021 school year, despite the growth challenges Greek life organizations saw when COVID changed the college experience. Chapter leadership reacted well to rising safety concerns, partnering with campus professionals to create educational programming for members. Programming topics included substance abuse, mental health concerns, bystander intervention, and sexual assault.
Other focus areas for the chapter were academic and philanthropic excellence. Members of the chapter at Southeast Missouri State University excelled academically and earned the highest cumulative GPA among Interfraternity Council chapters on campus. The chapter also showed excellence with their philanthropy efforts, raising over $13,000 for the LiveLikeLou Foundation, a non-profit organization that is committed to making an impact on ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) research while it supports families affected by the disease.
