Oran High School 1969 basketball players and cheerleaders 40 year reunion
Where were you 40 years ago? Times were simpler then, Oran High was 35-0, and our infamous head coach, Gene Bess was well on his way in becoming the winningest coach in the nation in Jr. College history!
To honor the team, there will be a banquet held on November 27, 2009 following the Gatorade Game (or Soap Game as we called it back in the day!) in the Oran Elementary School Cafeteria. Social hour will begin at 6:00pm in the library and move over to the cafeteria at 7:00pm for dinner. Speeches and special presentations will begin at approximately 8:00pm.
In putting this together, some people questioned why I wanted to do this. "They didn't win" they would say. But living in this community and hearing the stories told for years, I know how special this team was to the school and community as a whole. And with the "40th Anniversary" of "The Game" we needed to make it happen.
The whole team and cheerleaders along with assistant coaches and managers have been invited to come back and attend and all have said they would. Some will be traveling a long way and bearing great expense to be here and for that we are very appreciative.
So with that, please show your support and come out for a great evening. Get reacquainted with the team and hear all the stories told from years gone by. Tickets are $10.00 per person and can be purchased by contacting Lisa May at 573-262-3243 or 573-225-5174 or Bill Anderson at 573-262-2247 or 573-212-0990. Tickets must be purchased by November 17 and no tickets will be sold at the door.
A special DVD is also available of the actual game played in 1969 Oran vs. Dixon High School for the State Title for $10.00 and can be purchased separately. All proceeds go to the Oran Community Scholarship Fund and Oran AR program.
