From April 11-14, nearly 4,500 students grades 5-12, college students, and advisers, descended upon Springfield, MO for the Missouri Future Business Leaders of America -- Phi Beta Lambda State Leadership Conference.

Oran High School had 11 students in attendance, under the direction and support of adviser, Natalie Ries.

Students main focus was competitive events, in which nearly 3,400 of the attendees participated in. Events range from Accounting I to Website Design, with Economics, Public Speaking, and Social Media mixed in between. Overall, FBLA is home to more than 70 events. Specific events vary across the three divisions of the organization -- Middle Level, FBLA, and PBL.

Of these winners, Amber Flanigan and Mitchell Schaefer qualified for the National Leadership Conference in Chicago, where they will compete for scholarships and recognition and some of the best business students in the nation.

In addition, students were able to enjoy the many other opportunities of the professional business conference. For the first time, Missouri FBLA held at College and Career Fair with over 40 colleges present. In addition, over a dozen workshops from companies like the American Management Association, held students to develop their professional business skills.

A new team of officers was elected as well, with each team working towards improving their division. These officers assist in running each conference, including planning events and workshops.

Missouri FBLA-PBL is the official Career and Technical Student Organization for Missouri Business Education. Missouri FBLA-PBL is proudly supported and run by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Nearly 16,000 members of the organization form Missouri, making Missouri the second largest chapter in the nation.

National FBLA-PBL is a 250,000 member organization with headquarters in Reston, VA.
