The Rev. Fred Leist, superintendent of the Southeast District of the United Methodist Church, will be guest speaker for the annual Old McKendree Day service, Sunday, September 22 at 3 p.m. His sermon topic will be "Heritage and Horizon." The annual service will be held on the grounds of Old McKendree Chapel, located between Cape Girardeau and Jackson on County Road 206. Special music will be provided by "Grace," a well-known vocal group. Rev. Leist and the Board of Trustees for Old McKendree, invite the public to attend.

Old McKendree is regarded as the oldest Protestant church structure still standing, west of the Mississippi River. This is the 204th year of the organization of the congregation and the 194th year of the Chapel itself. The Chapel is listed in the National Archives of the Methodist Church and the National Register of Historic Places in the United States.
