The Nell Holcomb Betas completed a service project on Tuesday, February 2nd that was in participation with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and The Convoy Of Hope Organization. We collected "Kits4Kids," which was a kit consisting of: shampoo, comb, toothpaste, toothbrush, hand towel, and soap. We wanted to provide an opportunity for our students to participate in a statewide humanitarian effort that would help Haitian children suffering in the aftermath of the January 12 earthquake.

We collected about 2,500 items and $180. On Monday and Tuesday, the Betas combined all the items and arranged all the kits. The entire Nell Holcomb School pulled together and we were able to prepare 271 complete kits to be sent to the Haiti children.

To initiate the involvement of this program, we offered popcorn parties to the groups with the highest donations. The winners are as follows: Kindergarten-2nd grade Mrs. Byrum's class with 164 items; 3rd-5th grade Mrs. Orenstein's class with 88 items collected, and 6th-8th grade Mrs. Stovall's class with 808 items collected. The Convoy of Hope Organization will provide the Kits4Kids to families who have lost everything in their time of disaster. They will ship these boxes to Haiti.
