Nature Center: Don't Move Young Wildlife

The Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center will host Baby Animals, a Nature Center at Night event on March 8 from 5-8 p.m. Participants will learn what to do if they find young wildlife. A presentation at 6 p.m. will give information on what to do to keep them healthy and wild.

Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) Naturalist Greg Jacobs said spring is a great time to observe wildlife and it's an important season for animal populations as this is when most young are born.

"Although baby animals are a joy to observe, it is important to remember a few basic laws of nature," said Jacobs. "Disturbing or removing baby animals almost certainly means they will not survive."

Jacobs said although you may not see the animal's mother, she is almost always nearby and waiting for a safe time to return to her young. There will be a presentation by a team of local wildlife rehabilitators at 6p.m. as well as a display on wildlife babies and brochures to take home.
