Ste. Genevieve Cardiologist Named to New ABIM Board

Matthew S. Bosner, MD, FACC, Director of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Imaging at Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital, Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, been appointed to serve on the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Subspecialty Cardiology Board. The term is January 1, 2015-June 30, 2018.

"The broad depth of knowledge and skills represented on the new Cardiology Board will help as we work to evolve our Certification and Maintenance of Certification (MOC) programs -- to increase their relevancy for all of the specialties in cardiology," said Richard J. Baron, MD, President and CEO of ABIM. "I am confident that the board will effectively drive innovation in the options we offer cardiologists to meet MOC requirements."

"I feel quite honored to be on this board," said Dr. Bosner. "A major aspect of the position is related to how we will work with physicians nationwide to determine the most effective ways for them to keep up with a rapidly changing world of medical knowledge."

During the initial ABIM interview, Dr. Bosner had the opportunity to discuss specifics of how cardiology is practiced in rural communities.

"They were quite pleased with the results and the close relationships that the hospital has developed with nearby medical centers," said Dr. Bosner. "A portion of our committee work will focus on analyzing cost effective strategies for cardiovascular disease in smaller communities and improved transfer of care to and from tertiary medical centers."

Dr. Mariell Jessup, Chair of the Cardiology Board, said ABIM's new governance model is an opportunity to build new partnerships within the broad cardiology community.

"The recent changes to the Certification and MOC program have created a lot of discussion, and the board members will bring the perspective of their peers as we work to improve the MOC experience for all cardiologists."
