When Steve Boettcher learned he was going to be promoted to the rank of Staff Sargent, he knew immediately where he wanted the ceremony to be. Boettcher, a newly inducted member of the Cpl. Mason O Yarbrough detachment 1081, Marine Corps League and recruiter, assigned to the Cape Girardeau recruiting office, asked to have his promotion done at the League Barracks in Cape Girardeau. On January 4th Major Bastion, SgtMaj Vasquez and MSgt Vasquez conducted the ceremony with Boettcher�s mom and 20 Marine Corps League members watching. Major Bastion commented on the unique setting for this ceremony, with well over one hundred years of combined Marine Corps experience, dating back to before the Korean war, in attendance.
