Libertyfest & Airshow Event Relocates Due to Flooding Forecast

Cape Girardeau -- Libertyfest & Airshow, Cape Girardeau's 2008 4th of July celebration, will relocate to the airport due to river flooding and forecasts of future flooding.

"River levels are projected to be at a level that will not allow for the river activities required to hold this event," stated Chris Hutson, Old Town Cape Board President. "Our first concern must be for the safety of everyone involved, not only the spectators but the performers, technicians and rescue personnel as well. The projected river levels are too high for us to be on the river. This is simply beyond our control."

The event will be moved in its entirety and the schedule will remain intact. Both groups involved in this event are extremely disappointed that we will not be able to hold this event in downtown Cape Girardeau. "The downtown Cape Girardeau riverfront area is just an incredible venue and we have worked hard to make this happen," said Bruce Loy. "Although the location has changed, the event itself will still be an amazing combination of two of Cape Girardeau's biggest events and it promises to be one of the most exciting and patriotic shows ever for our citizens. From beautiful aerial performances, to patriotic music, to the large fireworks displays, anyone who comes is in for a real treat." added Marla Mills of Old Town Cape. "Most importantly, it is very important for everyone to remember that this event will remain FREE to the public
