Thirty-eight students and both junior high and high school adviser teams from Jackson High School Future Business Leaders of America attended the State Leadership Conference in Columbia, Missouri, on April 13-15, 2014.

FBLA is a career and technical student organization for all high school students participating in business programs. Over 3,760 members and advisers representing 450 chapters throughout the state met to elect state officers, transact business of the state chapter, participate in leadership and career workshops, and compete in the state leadership awards program. The 2014 conference was the largest conference in the event's 56 year history. Students compete at local and district levels before making it to the state conference, and Jackson was one of the largest delegations present at this year's SLC.

Melissa Stephens, Jackson High School FBLA President, was awarded the Joanne Newcomer FBLA Scholarship at the Monday session. Additionally, she was honored for achieving the America level for the FBLA Business Achievement Awards program and will represent the chapter at Nationals where she will receive her award. All first through third place winners also advance to the National Leadership Conference in Nashville June 29 through July 2, 2014.
