A delegation of 33 members and 3 advisors from the Jackson chapter of Future Business Leaders of America attended the State Leadership Conference in Columbia, Missouri, April 22-24, 2012. Chapter members participated in various competitive events, leadership workshops, observed performance events, and attended a keynote session with speaker Amy Larimore.

Sunday night, the Jackson chapter was recognized for participation in numerous state projects: Environmental Awareness, In Praise of Age, March of Dimes, Reach Out and Care, and National Travel Fund. The chapter also received the prestigious Award of Merit and was recognized as the Largest Local Chapter Membership for Class 4. Chapter president, Kathy Scienski, was awarded the $750 Joanne Newcomer Scholarship for her involvement in FBLA. Scienski was also awarded the America level for completion of the national Business Achievement Awards program.

Chapter report awards were also presented with all three reports entered placing in the top ten in the State. Local Chapter Annual Business Report, written by Ashley Stahlman and Emily Rodman, finished 8th in the State; American Enterprise Project Report, written by Ashley Stahlman, Melissa Stephens, and Kathy Scienski, placed 2nd in the State; and Partnership with Business Project Report, written by Katie Garner, Emily Rodman, and Melissa Stephens, finished 2nd in the State. The top two report winners advance to National competition later this summer.

Tuesday morning, individual and team awards were presented. Finishing in the top ten for the Jackson chapter included:

· 10th place--Introduction to Business Communications--Julie Bollinger

· 8th place--Business Financial Plan (team)--Ray Hecht, Charlie Townsend, JC Poore

· 6th place--Electronic Career Portfolio--Julia Weber

· 6th place--Who's Who in Missouri FBLA--Kathy Scienski.

· 5th place--Health Care Administration--Katie Garner

· 3rd place--Management Information Systems (team)--Stetson Tuschhoff, Ryan Marshall

· 3rd place--Banking & Financial Systems (team)--Celeste Bolen, Nick Fosse, Jacob Meadows

· 2nd place--Help Desk--Grant Gahm

· 1st place--Business Plan Project (team)--Ray Hecht, Ian Roberts

· 1st place--Computer Problem Solving--Stetson Tuschhoff

First and second place winners above will represent the Jackson FBLA chapter in San Antonio, Texas, in June.
