On Saturday April 28 the Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department is hosting the Friends of the Parks Day. This service event gives the entire Cape Girardeau community an opportunity to get outside and make their parks more beautiful.
Groups such as Boy Scouts of America, the Missouri Conservation Department and even local families will all come together at Capaha Park to take part in such activities as planting trees and flowers, water sealing benches, cleaning up fallen tree limbs and much more.
The event does not just encompass Capaha Park though. Groups will travel everywhere from the Jaycee Municipal Golf Course to Arena Park to the riverfront. "It's really more like Friends of the City Day," says Parks Division Manager Brock Davis, "There is even going to be a large group cleaning the creek bank all the way from the Osage Center to Shawnee Park."
All participants will receive free t-shirts and a lunch provided by the local Schnucks. Anyone interested in participating can pre-register by visiting cityofcapegirardeau.org/recreationevents and clicking on the group registration form. Day of event registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and all projects begin at 9 a.m.
