Beth Heise of Perryville has won the Missouri FFA Veterinary Medicine Entrepreneurship and Placement Combined Proficiency Award at the 86th Missouri FFA Convention.
Heise, a senior at Perryville Area Career and Technology Center and Perryville High School, is the daughter of Rick and Jan Heise. She is a member of the Perryville FFA Chapter. Her advisors are Tom Hulshof and William Allison.
Heise's supervised agricultural experience program began when she was offered a job at All Creatures Veterinary Clinic. She has many responsibilities at her job she is a receptionist and helps with the animals. Heise has improved her communication skills through her receptionist duties. Her duties as the clinic include cleaning, medicating animals and handling them properly, running diagnostic tests, and preparing animals and utensils for surgeries. Recently she has learned how to restrain and medicate cattle. Through her work at the clinic she has established relationships with many clients.
As an FFA member, Heise has attended state and national FFA conventions, the Missouri Farm Bureau Leadership Day, and State FFA Leadership Camp. She has participated in career development events including meats, soils, and dairy cattle evaluation.
At PHS, Heise is active in Scholar Bowl, Band, Friends of Education, and National Honor Society. She was also chosen to participate in the Missouri Scholars Academy.
In the future Heise plans to attend Southeast Missouri State University to obtain a degree in agribusiness and animal science.
Proficiency awards recognize FFA members who excel as agricultural entrepreneurs, employees or volunteers while gaining hands-on career experience. Veterinary Science is one of 50 proficiency award areas recognized at the state level. The Addison Biological Laboratories, Inc. sponsored this award.
