Kennett, Missouri (March 21, 2011)-Entries are being accepted for the Great Beginnings and Great Successes Writing Competition sponsored by the Heartland Writers Guild in conjunction with their 2011 conference which will be held June 3-4 at the Coach House Inn in Sikeston, Missouri. The Great Beginnings portion of the competition is for works which have not been published or accepted for publication. The Great Successes Competition is for books, articles, and poetry that have been published in-print.
Writers may submit up to three entries in the following categories: book-length fiction, short story, childrenfs picture book, book-length nonfiction, article-length nonfiction, and poetry. There is also a category for Flash Fiction which may be either published or unpublished. New York Times best-selling author Bobbi Smith is the contest administrator.
Contests and conferences can be a great asset to anyone wanting to get their writing published. The opportunity to listen to presentations and to visit one on one with editors and published authors can provide writers with insights into the world of publishing and also tips on how to improve their writing.
Brochures providing full details about the contest, conference staff, and accommodations can be obtained from the Heartland Writers Guild website: www.heartlandwriters.org, by sending a request to HWG, P. O. Box 652, Kennett, MO 63857, or by e-mailing heartlandwriters@yahoo.com.
