Once a month Mary met the girls at the garden and taught them the basics of gardening. On the first trip to the garden the girls prepared the soil with used coffee grinds from the shop. On the second visit the girls got down and dirty planting a variety of vegetables including tomatoes, potatoes, spinach, and carrots. The last visit on May 10 had the girls planting marigolds-a flower mentioned in the Daisy handbook.

The community garden was made to encourage people to plant gardens in their own backyard. It also encourages people to grow and eat locally grown produce. Anyone from the community is welcome to both help and enjoy this garden.
