Home Fire Prevention Campaign Event
CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO -- The American Red Cross Southeast Missouri Chapter will be kicking off their Home Fire Preparedness Campaign in Cape Girardeau on October 24, 2015.
Seven times a day in the United States, someone dies in a home fire. Even more frequently, American Red Cross volunteers provide help to families who have lost their homes to devastating fires. " Home fires are America's biggest disaster threat and unlike most disasters, they can be prevented," states Kate Struttman -- Disaster Program Manager for the American Red Cross Southeast MO Chapter. "The most effective ways to protect yourself and your home from fire are to have a family plan, identify a meeting spot outside of the home, identify and remove fire hazards and to install and maintain working smoke alarms in the home."
The American Red Cross has launched a nationwide campaign to reduce the number of home fire deaths and injuries by 25 percent over the next 5 years. As part of the campaign, we're joining with local fire departments, community groups, and local businesses to canvass neighborhoods, teach people about fire safety, and install free smoke alarms in high-risk areas.
The Red Cross of Southeast Missouri will be hosting a large-scale canvass and installation event in Cape Girardeau on Saturday, October 24, 2015. This event will provide FREE smoke alarm installation to identified neighborhoods in Cape Girardeau. To schedule a FREE smoke alarm installation, please call 573-335-9471 x1310. Appointments will be fulfilled in Cape Girardeau on Saturday October 24 and all other areas will have different dates for installation.
