Former Cape Central athlete Eric Schott competed this past weekend in the MIAA indoor track and field conference championships. This was Eric's last team competition for Missouri Southern State University and he was asked to run the 5K, 3K and mile to try and help his team accumulate enough points to win the conference championship. Eric competed Saturday night in the 5K and was second to his teammate Vincent Kiprop. Both athletes broke the old meet record, Vincent ran 14:19 and Eric ran 14:26. Eric competed in the mile run Sunday afternoon and ran a personal best of 4:12, besting his old mark by 12 seconds and placed second. Eric and Vincent then ran in the 3K later on Sunday and Eric was again second to his teammate. The Missouri Southern men's team finished to Lincoln University and Eric scored the second most points in the meet behind his teammate Jayce Thomas. Eric will compete on Friday, March 11, in the 5K at the National Indoor track and field meet in Pittsburg, Kansas. This will be his last college meet as he tries to earn his second All-American honor.
