The City of Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department is working with Lazy L Safari Park throughout the month of October to present four different animal related activities for children and families.

The first program, called Mommas and Babies, will be from 6 to 7p.m. on Oct. 8. Tlazy-l-classeshis event is for mothers and their children of 3 years or younger. All children must be accompanied by either one parent or grandparent. At this event, families will visit different animals at the zoo as well as their babies.

The next event is called Animals form A-Z, which will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 9 for children ages 4 and 5. For this event, children will practice their alphabet by visiting different animals around the zoo who's name begins with that letter. They will begin at A and work their way through the zoo all the way to Z.

From 6 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 10, children ages 6 to 12 can attend the Radical Reptiles event, which focuses on all the reptiles that Lazy L Safari offers in their facility. Some of the animals will include Snakes, Lizards, Tortoises and Alligators.

Finishing out the week is Born to be Wild, which will also be held from 6 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 11. This event is for children, ages 9 to-12. Children will learn about different types of animals who are either threatened, endangered, or extinct.

Recreation Coordinator and event programmer Stacey Welter said these events are a great opportunity for any child interested in animals to attend.

All events are $25 to enter and require pre-registration by Oct 4. This can be done by contacting the Parks and Recreation Department at 573-339-6340 or in person at A. C. Brase Arena between 8a.m. and 5p.m. Registration is also available by mail to: Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department, A. C. Brase Arena, 410 Kiwanis Dr., Cape Girardeau, MO 63701.

The Lazy L Safari Park is located at 2763 County Road 618 in Cape Girardeau. The park is a walk through zoo that is the home to over 50 different animals. Animals such as Alpacas, Antelope, Camels, Deer, Giraffes, Kangaroos, Zebras and many more .
