Descendents of Benjamin Elvis"Red" and Neva Dunning gathered at Arena Park in Cape Girardeau on May 31. The family reunion celebrated the legacy of Benjamin "Red" and Neva, along with their daughter, Wanda Sue Dunning Kinder, who entered her heavenly home in 2006.
Benjamin, aka "Red," was known for his musical talent in the Delta and Chaffee, Missouri area where he played guitar, fiddle and banjo with other local musicians. Benjamin and Neva were married Oct. 7, 1933 and raised their family of five children just outside of Delta. He later gathered up his children to form a gospel singing group that performed at the Delta Baptist Church, area church revivals, on the radio in Southeast Missouri and at a fundraising event in Southern Illinois to benefit Bald Knob Cross. Neva Dunning was famous with her children and grandchildren for the best chicken and dumplings ever! She loved to dance -- never missing a chance to groove with her grandchildren to the music of Elvis Presley and the like. And she and daughter Sue would have family members laughing till they cried with their humorous outtakes on life.
Family members attending the potluck lunch included: Angie and Kaci Evans; Kelly Seabaugh and Trenton; Carla and David Aufdenberg; Kevin, Collin and Colton Reimann; Cierra Reimann and Dezahri; Howard, Cheryl and Caylee Collins; Shirley (Dunning) Reimann; Joe and Anna Kinder; Virginia Proffer; Jim and Sharon (Dunning) Russom; Richard, Julie, Richie and Seth Seyer; Troy, Paula and Macie Smith; Joe Jr., Raquel, Jordan, Kelsi, Joseph and Callie Sue Kinder; Scott, Wyatt and Shiann Dunning; and Michele and Alandrea Cook.
