During Advent, students at Deer Creek Christian Academy in Cape Girardeau collected non-perishable food items, creating a "wall of giving" in the school hallway. On Tuesday, January 24th, the students delivered the food to the SEMO food bank. They toured the facility, and learned about how the food bank network operates. The students watched a video produced by SEMO college students, and learned about how donations into the food bank are sorted, packaged, and shipped to area food pantries. Food bank staff members explained how corporate donors, the USDA, and private donations of food, time, and money keep the food bank operating. The students left the food bank with a better understanding of how the community can come together and cooperate to help those in need.
