With membership at an all-time high of 141 students, Cape Girardeau Career and Technology Center DECA students were big winners at District Competition earlier this month at Southeast Missouri State University. Nineteen students walked away with awards. The local chapter's category winners and high schools they represent are: Principles of Finance, 1st Place: Veronica Ely-- Cape Central; 2nd Place: Luke Phillips-- Cape Central; 3rd Place: Monica Kester-- Oak Ridge. Principles of Business Management and Administration, 1st Place: Corey Connell-- Cape Central; 2nd Place: Chelsea Kirn-- Oak Ridge; 3rd Place: Derek Nunnery-- Cape Central. Principles of Marketing, 1st Place: Matthew Clark-- Cape Central; 2nd Place: Lacy Garner-- Cape Central. Principles of Hospitality and Tourism, 2nd Place: Madison Mohnsen-- Cape Central; 3rd Place: Nicholas Hester-- Scott City. Hotel and Lodging Management, 1st Place: Tyler Collins-- Cape Central. Marketing Management, 1st Place: Chelsea Willett-- Cape Central. Quick Service Restaurant Management, 3rd Place: Zach Schmitt--Cape Central. Retail Merchandising Series, 2nd Place: Cameron Propst-- Cape Central. Financial Services Team Event, 1st Place: Ryan Watts and Seth Mayes-- Cape Central. Entrepreneurship Written Event (Team Event), 2nd Place: Brandon Bryant-- Cape Central and Mercades Wells-- Woodland. Leadership Delegate, 2nd Place: Caleb Strickland-Cape Central. The local DECA chapter advisors, Michael Baremore and Rachal Learue, business technology instructors at Cape Career and Technology Center, said 14 students qualified for state competition next month at Lake Ozark, MO.
