Court Appointed Special Advocates of Southeast Missouri is partnering with the Southeast Hospital Wellness Center to host the Third Annual "Run for a Child" 5 and 10k Run/Walk on June 27, 2009. The race is held to raise money to train more CASA volunteers to advocate for abused and neglected children in Southeast Missouri. CASA volunteers are appointed by a judge to advocate on behalf one child's case representing their best interests between family, court and other factors that affect a foster child's life. Children with CASA volunteers are less likely to spend time in long-term foster care, to move from home to home or to re-enter the foster care system.
The race gives a chance for people to give their support for CASA, and show foster children of Southeast Missouri that people of their community care for their needs. Local businesses are invited to become involved and sponsor the race as well. For sponsorship information contact Revonda Kirby at 573-335-1726.
The race will begin at the Osage Community Centre on the Cape LaCroix Trail at 8:30 am. Participants are asked to register with the Southeast Hospital Wellness Connection, located in West Park Mall, by June 19. However registration will be allowed the day of before the race.
