The SEMO Copperheads went on the road this past weekend to face-off against the West Central Warriors in Archie MO. Both teams were coming back from a win after the Copperheads defeated the Newton County Warriors at there home opener in Sikeston, and the Warriors defeated the Springfield Lightening. The word football weather is something that held very true in this match-up because the temperature was in the lower 30's, and during the game the conditions changed from simply rain, into sleet followed by a large sleet and snow mix. The Copperheads came prepared, weathered the storm and were able to answer the call by scoring on offense, defense and special teams. Chase Johnson a Cape Central Graduate did a great job of spreading the ball out to his receiving core including, Tim Grissom, and Eddie Calvin who both scored in the game and Chris Huffman who scored 2 TDs at reciever, including a long rushing touchdown by running back Corey Echols. The defense did a Superb job of stopping the run and the pass as, Herschel Hamilton, Pat Chapman and Jeremiah Dukes (cape central graduate) led the team in tackles on this cold on muddy Saturday afternoon, along with a long interceptions return for TD by Eddie Calvin, complimented by a hit of the day by Justin Simmons who Clobbered the Warriors makeshift quarterback after there starting quarterback left the game with a hand injury. On special teams Running Back Corey Echols Returned a Kick-off for touchdown in the 4th quarter to Cap or Cape the win. The win sent the Semo Copperheads to 2-0 This season Number 1 in there division, The Copperheads have a home game this weekend on April 2nd 2pm at Sikeston Sport Complex to square off against next city over rivals, the Jackson Apaches, considering this will be a Showdown between Neighboring cities it shall make for one great football game.
