COLLEGE STUDENTS SERVE YOUTH AND LEARN LEADERSHIP

The Beta Psi chapter of Alpha Phi Omega, chartered to Southeast Missouri State University hosted a section conference focused on leadership development, professional networking, and service to the campus, community, and country. College students from the greater St. Louis region stretching from Truman State University in Kirksville Missouri to SIU Edwardsville in Edwardsville IL participated in a variety of networking and leadership development workshops and activities as they fulfilled the mission of the organization: to prepare campus and community leaders through service.

Here is a glimpse of the positive outcomes from the weekend conference:

* $600 was raised for charities including the Boy Scouts of America, St. Baldricks Foundation which services children with cancer, and the Pulsera Project which raises money for Nicaugran children through the sales of handmade bracelets.

* 53 individuals took specialized courses pertaining to Servant Leadership while over 100 brothers took workshops on various professional skills.

* 93,700 Pop Tabs were collected for the Ronald McDonald House.

Alpha Phi Omega National Coed Service Fraternity has more than 17,000 male and female student members at 366 college campuses nationwide. Its mission is to prepare campus and community leaders through service. Its purpose is to develop leadership, to promote friendship and to provide service to humanity. Founded at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania in 1925, it is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization headquartered in Independence, Missouri. More than 350,000 members have joined Alpha Phi Omega since its founding. The Beta Psi Chapter at the Southeast Missouri State University was chartered in 1939. The chapter provides service to the community, leadership development and fellowship opportunities to its membership.
