Every 13 minutes in the United States, a woman dies from breast cancer. That means 18 women lose their battle during a four-hour round of golf. "Take a Swing at Breast Cancer" golf tournament, held Monday, May 14, at Bent Creek Golf Course in Jackson, raised $6,500 to honor those women and to help fund research to find a cure.

The tournament is organized by the non-profit organization A Sister's Hope, founded by Jackson native Cathy Seabaugh in 2006 with the sole mission of helping researchers identify better treatments and find a cure for this disease. A Sister's Hope events in the U.S. and in The Netherlands over the past five years have generated for researchers nearly $5 million. The biggest event is a two-day 60-kilometer (39 miles) walk each October in Holland that finishes in the historic Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam. A Sister's Hope also produces the Pink Moon Run & Walk 8K, which takes place Sunday afternoon, Oct. 28, at the County Courthouse Square in Jackson. Money raised by the events is placed directly into the hands of researchers.

"Without funding, there is no research, and without research, there is no hope," said Seabaugh, whose sister Shelia Hager is a survivor. "We give a sister hope."
