When it comes to diving, there's no better high school athlete in the area than Cape Central senior Tara Volkerding. Volkerding placed first in the final competition of her high school career this winter at the Show Me Conference at Perry Park Center. Swimming and diving coach Dayna Powell said that Volkerding worked hard all four years of high school, often by herself. Volkerding said, "I started off as a gymnast, so I already had some of the skills that you need to be a driver." Volkerding is graduating in May, and plans to continue her education at Cape Career and Technology Center. In the photo collage above, the Central High School senior demonstrates some of the skills that have kept her at the top of her sport.
