Memories will fly as the Class of '56 of Central High School gathers on Sept. 24 for their 60th class reunion. Memories will fly as the Class of '56 of Central High School gathers on Sept. 24 for their 60th class reunion. We'll remember marching to a drum cadence up Pacific Street to Houck Stadium for the football games, winning football and basketball and baseball games against Jackson Indians; dancing in the Tiger Den; and how about remembering those scratchy wool band uniforms and marching up Broadway hill to Capaha Park in a hot Labor Day Parade? Remember Mr. Carosello, Mr. Ueleke, coach Muegge, coach Muir, Mr. Hager, Mrs. Wescoat, Miss Sadler and all of our brave teachers? Working part-time jobs at the dime stores, delivering papers for the Southeast Missourian and delivering groceries and medicine? We did it all.

The 50s were a wonderful time to grow up in Cape and the class wants to invite friends from other classes to come visit them from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sept. 24 in the Fellowship Hall of Maple United Methodist Church, Cape Rock and Jean Ann Drive. Classmates will then have a dinner at 6:30 p.m. catered by Pilot House.

Reservations for the dinner are needed by Sept. 1. Cost is $25 per person and checks may be made to Class of '56 and sent to Jerry Schlegel at 2008 Robin Hood Circle, Cape Girardeau, MO 63701.

Looking forward to seeing everyone and yes, it is just a one evening, casual affair. We'll all gather for the two-day big 50s reunion at the Arena in 2018, but we want to celebrate our 60 years now because it was a special time in our lives and because we don't want to miss an opportunity to be together "one more time."
