She was born Sept. 1, 1918 in New Madrid County, one of 10 children, and grew up in East Prairie.

Her great great-grandfather, Robert Goah Watson, settled in New Madrid in 1805 prior to the New Madrid Earthquake as a fur trader, merchant and, eventually, landowner/politician. Her great-grandparents, William and Amanda Hunter built the antebellum Hunter-Dawson Home at the Hunter-Dawson State Historic Site in New Madrid. Mrs. Wilson is believed to be the oldest living descendant of the Hunters.
