The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department is proud to announce they will be offering the third annual Girls Softball League for ages 5 -- 15 this summer. There will be five separate age divisions, beginning with Instructional (t-ball) for 5-6 year-olds, Rookie (coach pitch) for 7-8 year-olds, AA for 9-10 year-olds, AAA for 11-12 year-olds, and Majors for 13-15 year-olds. A $10 late registration fee will be added after April 11. The entry fee will cover the cost for a 10-12 game schedule, uniform shirt, ASA team registration, and all team playing equipment (excluding gloves). All games will be played at the Arena Park softball fields. Players 9-15 years of age will be required to attend a pre-season skills test. Players will be tested on hitting, fielding, throwing, base-running, and pitching (if interested). Skills tests will take place from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, April 5; Monday, April 9; and Wednesday, April 11. All skills testing will take place at the Arena Park softball fields. Players should come equipped to play on one of these dates. Games are set to begin at the end of May and will run through the end of July.

Head and assistant coaches are needed for this league. Registration forms and coaching forms are currently available at the A. C. Brase Arena, Osage Centre, and Shawnee Park Center, as well as online at www.cityofcape.org/parks. Registration forms can be turned in at the A. C. Brase Arena or at any of the skills testing sessions. Forms may also be turned in at the Southeast SportsCare/Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department Sign Up Saturday at the Osage Centre on Saturday, March 10 from 11 a.m. -- 3 p.m. The registration deadline is set for Wednesday, April 11. Anyone interested in sponsoring a team in the Girls Softball League should contact the Parks and Recreation Department office at 573-339-6340.
