Brooke Baugher, a senior at Cape Central High School, poses with her fibers artwork that won Best in Show Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012 in the High School Art Exhibition at River Campus of Southeast Missouri State University. CHS and Cape Alternative Education Center were two of 16 area schools displaying in the exhibition in the Crisp Museum. More than 200 pieces of work were submitted by junior and senior high school students and 109 were selected for exhibition. The exhibited pieces were judged in the categories of ceramics, drawing, fibers, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture and mixed media. Of the 40 awards given, Cape Central High School students won 9 while exhibiting 26 pieces and Cape Alternative Education Center earned one while exhibiting three pieces. Of the eight first-place awards, Central students took home four. Ashley Cusick, a junior at CHS, won five awards: three first places, an honorable mention and the Art Academy Award. Winning the Art Academy Award qualifies her to create a new piece of art that will be photographed and featured on the poster for the 2013 High School Art Exhibit poster.
