The Southernmost Illinois Delta Empowerment Zone (SIDEZ) and Alexander County Tourism (ACT) are auctioning sixteen nearly new single speed bicycles, helmets, tag-alongs and other bicycling gear to raise funds to support the 2010 Tour de Shawnee bicycle tour. The auction will be held on Sunday, September 26 at 1 PM at the Pulaski County Business Center in Mounds. The bicycles were purchased by Alexander County Tourism with a grant from SIDEZ but are no longer needed by ACT.
"The bicycles come in beautiful shades of cobalt, powder blue, silver and white and would make a great Christmas gift," says SIDEZ Executive Director Donna Raynalds. "There are two trailers available for transporting small children (or pets) behind a bicycle and two tag alongs that convert a single bicycle into a tandem." Raynalds said that the bicycles, trailers and tag alongs are valued at approximately $250 each and are high quality sturdy brands such as Simple, Giant and Suede.
SIDEZ will also be auctioning bar equipment and a 2006 GMC Sierra pickup besides the bicycles.
