The Art Academy Summer Workshop Exhibit will be held at the Art Council of Southeast Missouri August 5-27. The exhibit is a culmination of student artworks from the workshops. An opening reception will be Friday, August 5th from 5-9 p.m. The Art Council is located on 32 Main Street in Cape Girardeau. Regular hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
The Art Academy is a collaboration between the Art Council of Southeast Missouri and the Art Department of Southeast Missouri State University devoted to engaging students in the visual arts through looking at art, exploring the nature of art, critically analyzing works of art, and creatively producing works of art is a variety of media.
This year's summer art workshops and instructors were:
*Young Pottery and Children¡*s Ceramics with University Ceramics Professor Benjie Heu and University Pre-Service Art Teachers Jami Heflin and Bettina Comstock. *Sculpture with University Sculpture Professor Chris Wubbena and University Pre-Service Art Teachers Bettina Comstock, Mandy Blaney, Megan Walsh, and Rosetta Whitten.
*Painting with Cape Girardeau School Art Teachers Sharon Williams and Becky Coleman, along with University Pre-Service Art Teachers Jami Heflin and Kim Pokorny.
*Drawing with Cape Central High School Art Teacher Beth Thomas and Saxony Lutheran High School Art Teacher Brenda Seyer, along with University Pre-Service Art Teachers Jami Heflin and Katherine Maddock.
*Mural at the Mall with Professional Artist Craig Thomas and University Pre-Service Art Teacher Heather Alfaro.
*Painting at Chateau Girardeau and Fontainebleau Lodge with University Pre-Service Art Teacher Heather Alfaro.
Through the generosity of Red Letter Communications and the Parent and Teacher Association of Jefferson School, Art Academy Scholarships were provided to students. Silent Night also generously donated art supplies for the Painting Workshop at Chateau Girardeau and Fontainebleau Lodge.
