Join us on Saturday, May 3rd for Cape Girardeau's version of the Kentucky Derby. The 6th Annual Mouse Races for MS will be held at the VFW located at 1049 North Kingshighway in Cape Girardeau. The event hosted by Sandy Hoffman of MedAssets will feature 36 mice, competing in six races with the winner of those six races competing in a final race to see which mouse earns the title of "The Fastest Mouse in the Midwest"! All the proceeds from this event will go directly to the Gateway Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and be used to fund important research, programs and services.
Multiple Sclerosis, more often known as MS, is a chronic disease that attacks the central nervous system, which includes the brain, spinal cord, and optic nerves. Symptoms can be very mild, such as numbness in the limbs, or more severe, such as paralysis or loss of vision. Currently there are over 7100 self-reported cases of multiple sclerosis in the Gateway Area Chapter's 90-county area, with over 600 of those living in southeast Missouri and extreme southernmost Illinois.
Doors, betting windows and complimentary food and beer begins at 6:30 p.m. The races begin at 7:30 with dancing immediately following the conclusion of the races. The event ends at midnight.
Tickets may be purchased in advance for $20 per person, $35 per couple, or $140 per table of 8. Tickets may also be purchased at the door for $25 per person. If you are a Veteran and show an ID, your admission fee is $15. If you cannot attend the event and would like to sponsor a mouse for $25, your name will be read when your mouse races.
