CHAFFEE -- Alma Menz, 87, of Chaffee, died Friday, July 29, 1994, at the Advance Nursing Center in Advance. She was born Dec. 3, 1906, in Bollinger County, daughter of Robert and Mary Etta Stevens Hahn. She married Marvin Ancell Sr. He died Feb. 12, 1941. She then married Otto J. Menz, July 3, 1948. He died April 12, 1952...

To the Editor, By all measurements, Balloon Fest '94 was an artistic success and a fine addition to the roster of annual events in Cape Girardeau. As with all endeavors of this sort, it takes a lot of time and effort by a lot of people to make it work. I am personally thrilled and grateful to have been involved with a wonderful group of committee members whose unofficial, but often repeated motto was, "we can make this work". And they did!...

Volunteers are needed for the 29th annual Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Association Telethon Sept. 5. A local church has set up a trust fund for a Cape Girardeau man injured last month in a fall at work. On July 12, Larry Miget, owner of Miget Service Co. in Cape Girardeau, fell while working. He suffered a skull fracture, a broken neck and spinal cord damage, rendering him paralyzed...

The 1944 class of the former College High School will hold its 50-year reunion Aug. 13 and 14 at Drury Lodge. This will be a joint reunion with the classes of 1942, 1943 and 1945. Tuesday's election on a $250 million, statewide bond issue amounts to almost a crusade for Southeast Missouri State University officials. They eagerly await the chance to secure funding for construction of a College of Business building. If voters approve Constitutional Amendment 4, the university stands to receive $12.3 million toward construction of a $14 million business building. University supporters have already raised $2.4 million toward the project...
