HARRISBURG, Ill. -- They are small figures and symbols carved long ago into the sedimentary bluffs that shoulder the 266,000 acres of Shawnee National Forest. EAST PRAIRIE -- Dorsie Wayne Laughlin, 84, of East Prairie died Jan. 30, 1993, at the Missouri Delta Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born Aug. 5, 1908, in Linn Creek, Mo., the son of the late Alonzo Theodore and Maude May Mann Laughlin. He married Irene Morgan on Dec. 24, 1935. She survives...

FREDERICKTOWN -- Ivon Gaines, 66, of Fredericktown died Jan. 30, 1993, at his home. He was born at Hahn, Mo., March 27, 1926, to the late King and Ella Deck Gaines. Neva Louise Stone, 76, of 1751 Themis, died Sunday, Jan. 31, 1993, in her home. She was born March 4, 1916, in Morley, daughter of Clarence W. and Lula Wolsey Cannon. She married Lloyd Stone on Oct. 14, 1936 in Jackson. He died June 26, 1979. Stone worked in the maternity ward of Southeast Missouri Hospital for 33 years, until she retired in 1989. She was also a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, where she was active in the United Methodist Women and the Quilting Circle...

A college course on early and middle childhood is being offered at the Perryville Extension Center. The course is Human Development and Family Studies: Early and Middle Childhood.
