Bishop Officiates at School Ceremony; Cornerstone Laid For New Structure
A prediction the new District Catholic High School will attract "more and useful citizens to the community" was voiced by Bishop Charles H. Helmsing, auxiliary bishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of St. Louis, at cornerstone-laying ceremonies at the school site here Sunday afternoon.
Although "American presidents from Washington to Eisenhower have insisted on spiritual and moral values," fellow Catholics behind the Iron Curtain are being arrested, put in jail, and put to death for their beliefs, the bishop asserted.
He said such Catholics as Cardinal Vishinsky in Poland, Cardinal Mindszenty in Hungary, and Cardinal Stepinac in Yugoslavia "are sacrificing their lives for their fellow men.
Correct Principles ...
The bishop told a crowd of more than 100 persons at the outdoor ceremony that if "our people follow the principles to be taught here by the Sisters of Notre Dame, the results will benefit the community, state and nation."
