The Rev. Joseph E. Gosche, left, and the Rev. Martin J. Culligan revealed the long-awaited decision about the fate of Old St. Vincent's Catholic Church at a news conference at the church. The church's future came into question after the construction of new St. Vincent de Paul Church. In November 1977, Old St. Vincent's was given the status of a Chapel of Ease. The pastor of St. Mary's Cathedral Parish became responsible for the administration of the 1850 structure, while members of Old St. Vincent's agreed to generate funds for the renovation and preservation of the old church.

The New Orpheum theater is to have its formal opening tonight at 7:30. Managers Sanders and Nenninger have not only a beautiful new theater to present to their hosts of friends but a most attractive opening program.

A comedy-drama with the most popular comedian now on the American stage as the star will be presented. The story was published in the magazines and made such a great hit that Essanay grabbed it.

Taylor Holmes, the stage star, is making his debut as a screen star in "Efficiency Edgar's Courtship," an Essanay comedy drama.

There is a finish to this actor's work which is seldom to be found on the screen. He is a master of facial expression and is possessed of a personality which wins the spectator from the start.

Exhibit of Work of Girardeau Artists on Display for Three Days

Girardeans will see the results of some real talent tonight and over the week end at the first annual exhibit of paintings of Cape Girardeau artists at The Missourian Building arcade. The premier showing will be held in connection with a reception from 8 to 10 o'clock tonight.

On Saturday the exhibit will be open to public inspection from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be more than 20 separate paintings, batiks and the like. Paintings will be in water color and oils and pastels will mingle with the group. Some highly interesting sketches have been made by local artists who, through this exhibit, hope to cultivate a sincere interest in this branch of art and encourage not only public interest, but student talent.

Artists whose works are included in the exhibit are Fred Dormeyer, Fred Dreher, M. Lucille Durfee, Marybelle Kimball, Silas P. Neal, Mrs. R. B. Oliver Jr., Anthony Rosso, Dorothy Seabaugh, Mrs. S. D. McFarland and George Knight.
