Specialized Office Services has put an emphasis on bringing in new and refurbished preowned equipment to help customers during the economic downturn.

When Brad and Shari Eggimann of Specialized Office Services Inc. named their family-owned company 28 years ago, they set out with a goal of helping people with their office needs.

"S.O.S. was on our minds," said Shari Eggimann, the company's owner.

The company, which specializes in sales of Lanier copiers, the sale and service of most major brand copiers and printers and other office equipment, has moved twice from its original location, a small building that is now underneath the intersection of Highway 74 and South Sprigg Street, but hasn't lost a customer service- oriented focus.

Kylie Scholz, the company's manager, said their goal for 2010 is to bring in new and refurbished preowned equipment to fit customer needs. In the past few years in an economic downturn, she said customers have been requesting to buy quality preowned equipment, which can save thousands of dollars.

"Anything we can do to save our customers money and provide them with the quality and service they are accustomed to is our No. 1 goal," Scholz said.

The company also offers contracts to not-for-profit agency customers that allow the sale of new equipment at a fraction of the retail price.

Specialized Office Services, Inc. provides sales and service to Missouri, Illinois and Kentucky from 401 N. Clark Ave. in Cape Girardeau.
