The Naeter Brothers, owners of The Daily Republican since 1904, renamed the newspaper The Cape Girardeau Southeast Missourian on March 1, 1918. On the day the new building was dedicated, Sept. 11, 1925, the newspaper changed its name to The Southeast Missourian.
