NEW YORK (AP) -- Sales of a book about the World Trade Center terrorist attack will benefit victims of the tragedy.
The book, "September 11, 2001: A Record of Tragedy, Heroism, and Hope," is a chronicle in text and 88 photos, most in color, of the attack and the days that followed.
Proceeds from sales of the book will be donated to the September 11th Fund, which was created by the United Way and the New York Community Trust to respond to the immediate and long-term needs of the victims and their families and communities.
The book's photos were compiled by the editors of New York Magazine and include the work of several photographers and agencies.
Photos include a two-page spread showing rescue workers picking their way among the rubble that only hours ago was two 110-story buildings; President George W. Bush standing atop a charred fire truck at Ground Zero expressing his thanks to the rescue workers through a bull horn; a rescue worker pausing briefly to wash his face at a fire hydrant; and one of many sidewalk displays of flyers with the names and photos of the missing.
The dust jacket shows the twin towers burning in the background with the Empire State Building -- once again the city's tallest structure -- in the foreground.
The text includes quotes by elected officials, clergy, rescue workers, media members, eyewitnesses and survivors.
The 128-page hardcover is published by Abrams at $19.95.
------ Life magazine parades out parade book
NEW YORK (AP) -- Those who love a parade also might love a book about a parade.
"America's Parade" is a history of one of the best-known public processions of all -- the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York.
The book contains 300-plus photos, many in color, from the archives of Life magazine and Macy's. Its publication coincides with the staging of this year's parade, the 75th.
Among the photos: a three-page fold-out of the Pink Panther balloon soaring high above Broadway near Central Park in 1991; a black-and-white image of a Macy's employee portraying Miss Muffet in the first parade (1924); Snoopy, a frequent participant, in various guises, as astronaut, ice skater and World War I flying ace; Mighty Mouse appearing not so mighty in the 1956 parade, when high winds forced his balloon to the ground; and Mickey Mouse being deflated at the parade's end.
Other famous floating figures include Uncle Sam, Howdy Doody, Betty Boop, Superman, Felix the Cat and, of course, the Thanksgiving turkey.
The 176-page hardcover is published by Life Books at $29.95.

There is also a glossary, selected bibliography and index.
The three volumes total 1,824 pages and cost $395 ($325 until Dec. 31).
