__What is the most important issue facing the Jackson Public Schools and what can be done about it?__
Jackson is currently the fastest growing community in southeast Missouri. The school district is one of the primary reasons. As we face ever-growing class sizes and continued expansion, equipping our teachers with the latest techniques and tools is my top priority. The district has invested a large amount in facilities over the past decade, we need to make sure our teachers receive the same attention.
__What in your background or education makes you qualified for this office?:__
Serving in the United States Army taught me to lead others during difficult times. My law enforcement career gave me the confidence to always protect the rights of others over self interest. My P&G career has given me the managerial skills needed to lead cross organizational teams, understand change and growth and prepare for the future. And as a parent of two Jackson students, I understand the needs and challenges of today's district families.
__Where do you stand on the issue of Common Core standards?:__
Common Core is not the reason I decided to run, but it's definitely the main concern of many voters and therefore one I have tried to educate myself on. I find as a parent, I'm more worried about the practices put in place by the district to insure we meet the accreditation requirements instead of Common Core itself. I'm concerned we are spending more time on those who don't instead of challenging those who do.
__Do you think the Jackson School District is a good place for teachers to work? Why or why not?__
Common Core will be mandatory for all public schools, so those issues will exist at any public school. What makes the Jackson School District a great place is the pride for the district shown through the students, parents and community. And even though I have concerns with some of the practices, I believe the administration has tried to keep students and teachers a priority when making decisions and will continue to do so.
