__What is the most important issue facing the Jackson Public Schools and what can be done about it?__
Continuing the quality education for the children that the Jackson R-2 teachers have accomplished--both on the local and state level. This can be achieved by giving the quality teachers that we have in the district the ability to use their professional education in their creative way.
__What in your background or education makes you qualified for this office?__
I am a dentist, and my vision has always been to help people gain control of their lives and health through education. Over the years I have had many leadership roles professionally, in the community, and on the school board at the local, regional and state level. I hope you as a voter agree that my vision and experience will offer QUALITY--PROGRESS--STABILITY to the Jackson R-2 School District.
__Where do you stand on the issue of Common Core standards?__
I believe the Common Core Standards are another piece of helping the student achieve their best. We started 'Vertical Teaming' as an initiative on the local level many years ago. There were some who thought it would be a waste of time. Those same people became very supportive after it was implemented. Communication of 'common goals' only makes sense for guiding us to understand what the student needs to learn. Be patient with the transition.
__Do you think the Jackson School District is a good place for teachers to work? Why or why not?__
Jackson R-2 is an excellent school district for the teachers to work. One of the reasons is the community. The parents have high expectations for the education of their children. Therefore they expect the School Board to hire the best teachers, administrators and support staff--and we have. This is also a very conservative school district. We are stretched thin in the classrooms and other areas. Everyone carries a heavy load.
