I have served as a PTO officer at North Elementary for 7 years, currently holding the position as President.

__What is the most important issue facing the Jackson Public Schools and what can be done about it?__

Our biggest challenge is to restore faith and communication within our district. Our greatest resource lies in our parents and teachers. Our school board holds the responsibility to respect that resource and the power to enhance it by encouraging open communication. An ongoing appreciation of those genuinely vested in the success of our students will empower our district as a whole. Please visit my FB page: Vote Kristi Uhrhan for Jackson R2 School Board.

__What in your background or education makes you qualified for this office?__

As a PTO officer, I've witnessed firsthand the value of parent involvement and appreciate the needs of our teachers beyond that which our tax dollars provide.

As an Architect, I work with school districts and recognize the value of those dollars and possess an insight for the functions of our buildings. Our firm prides itself on working collaboratively with administrators, school boards, teachers and staff to turn inspirational visions into educational realities for their communities.

__Where do you stand on the issue of Common Core standards?__

I believe that our schools should be a constant reflection of the values of their communities. Moreover, success in education must be founded on the collaborative efforts of our parents and teachers. Common Core Standards and more specifically the initiative itself have bypassed these resources. Feedback and concerns of those with the most genuine interest in the children have been dismissed and questions left unanswered. That alone should at least warrant our attention and concern.

__Do you think the Jackson School District is a good place for teachers to work? Why or why not?__

I believe in the community of Jackson, specifically its families and teachers. In that respect, the increased potential for our schools and their employees is very promising. We are empowered with talented teachers who engage their students and dedicated parents who strive to be actively involved. Such a collaborative environment is ideal for any teacher. As a board member, I hope to further enhance that effort through open, two-way communication and accountability.
