MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- When the game was on the line, the San Antonio Spurs relied on the NBA's MVP.

Tim Duncan hit a 12-footer as time expired in overtime Monday night to give San Antonio a 103-101 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies.

Officials reviewed the final play and said Duncan made the shot with .8 seconds remaining, capping a comeback for the Spurs -- who trailed by seven points early in the 5-minute overtime.

"We went with our horse and feel that he got the job done," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. "He missed a few shots, but even Michael (Jordan) misses."

Duncan, last season's league MVP, finished with 29 points and 14 rebounds. He scored nine points in overtime as San Antonio improved to 25-3 against the Grizzlies by winning its 20th straight in the series.

"It was a good shot," Memphis center Lorenzen Wright said of Duncan's game-winner. "It was the kind of shot you dream about making. ... We played good defense. He was just able to make the shot."

Memphis, winless in four games this season, scored the first seven points in overtime. But turnovers and missed shots down the stretch allowed the Spurs to outscore the Grizzlies 7-0 over the final 1:03.

"We just couldn't close the deal," Memphis coach Sidney Lowe said. "I am hurt. They played so hard, and they deserved to win that ballgame. We executed down the stretch, but we just couldn't hold on to it."

Malik Rose had 23 points and nine rebounds for the Spurs, while Tony Parker added 22 points.

Pau Gasol led the Grizzlies with 22 points. Jason Williams, who scored five points early in overtime, added 19.

Memphis' Shane Battier hit a 15-footer with 30 seconds left in regulation to tie it at 90. Battier missed a similar jumper with about 5 seconds left in regulation.

Memphis led 50-49 after two quarters, its first halftime lead this season.

"It's like the old saying: 'You don't want to see anyone lose, because both of us played our hearts out,"' Popovich said. "But we'll take the win."

Notes: Memphis went with its third different starting lineup in four games. Lowe said he wasn't trying to match up with the taller Spurs' front line, but rather was trying to find the right combination of players to get the Grizzlies untracked. ... San Antonio's Steve Smith missed his third consecutive game with a strained right groin. ... Speedy Claxton of the Spurs missed his first game after being put on the injured list with a dislocated right shoulder. ... Memphis has given up at least 100 points in all four games this season.
